CASTRO VALLEY, CA — Castro Valley may seem a bit far inland for a coastal cleanup, but all streams lead to San Francisco Bay. "Cleaning upstream riparian areas helps prevent garbage from entering the ocean, protecting birds and other marine animals, while beautifying the environment," according to the Alameda County Unincorporated Area Clean Water Program.

The agency is hosting a the 40th annual volunteer clean up for Coastal Cleanup Day at the Castro Valley Creek Trail by the library.

Register today for the cleanup. Details about the time and place to meet are on the signup page.
