3 Children Injured, One Seriously in Hayward House Fire

Fire officials said about 60 to 75 percent of the house was destroyed by the blaze.

Hayward, CA— Three children were injured, one seriously, in a fire at a home in unincorporated Hayward this morning, an Alameda County fire spokeswoman said.

The blaze was reported at 8:25 a.m. at a home near the intersection of Gribben Avenue and Mero Street, fire spokeswoman Aisha Knowles said.

Two boys and a girl were hospitalized as a result of the fire. The girl's injuries are considered life-threatening while the two boys are expected to survive, Knowles said.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze within about 15 minutes and remained at the scene as of 9:30 a.m. to put out any hot spots, according to Knowles.

Knowles said about 60 to 75 percent of the house was destroyed by the blaze. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
