Metal Detector, Bag Checks Will Be Soon Required At Culver City Meetings

City Council meeting attendees will be required to go through airport-style security in order to enter the council chambers.

CULVER CITY, CA — Attendees of City Council meetings will need to go through airport-style security beginning next week, according to the city.

Beginning Aug. 12, all people entering the Mike Balkman Council Chambers during a City Council meeting will be required to pass through a security screening that includes a metal detector and bag inspection.

Guns, knives, pepper spray, tasers, batons and other weapons are prohibited.

Additionally, signs larger than 18 by 24 inches are prohibited.

City officials said the measures are meant "to ensure public safety during City Council meetings."
