Child Injured By Wine-Bottle-Throwing Woman: Sonoma County Sheriff

The woman had five out-of-county warrants and is now likely to face multiple charges in Sonoma County including felony child cruelty.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — A child was injured Saturday as a woman hurled wine bottles at passing cars, the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies were dispatched just before 5 p.m. Saturday to multiple reports about the wine-bottle-throwing lady in the 4800 block of Old Redwood Highway in Larkfield.

Maria Consutma Carmona, 43, of Susanville, had already walked away when deputies got to the scene but a witness gave a description of Carmona and told deputies which direction she was headed.

Carmona seemed to be under the influence of alcohol when deputies caught up with her, the sheriff's office said in a statement.

It is alleged she stole several bottles of wine from a Larkfield business, then proceeded to throw the bottles full of wine at cars passing by on Old Redwood Highway.

"A child was in one of the vehicles and was injured when one of the bottles hit the vehicle," the sheriff's office said.

Emergency medical personnel with the Sonoma County Fire District treated the child for minor injuries.

Carmona, who had five warrants for her arrest from other counties, was booked into Sonoma County jail on suspicion of felony assault with a deadly weapon, felony throwing an object at a vehicle, felony child cruelty and misdemeanor theft, according to the sheriff's office.

Her bail was set at $63,500 for the incident Saturday combined with the out-of-county warrants, the sheriff's office said.

As of Tuesday, Carmona was still being held at the county jail.
