SMART — an acronym for the agency's full title, the Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit District — has received grant funding to complete rail and pathway construction from Santa Rosa to Windsor and begin design and construction work from Windsor to Healdsburg. The city now has the opportunity to determine a station location that best meets the needs of the community and future riders, city officials said Wednesday.

The location of the station is critical in planning for the expansion to Healdsburg. Potential station sites include the depot on Hudson Street as well as a downtown site adjacent to the City Parking lot on Vine Street between North Street and Matheson Street.
