Sonoma County Supervisors To Review Community Preparedness Plan

The plan includes a "Sonoma Ready Day" and training the county's 5,400 fifth-graders in schools about emergency preparedness.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday is scheduled to review and approve a community preparedness plan for disasters and emergencies. The plan recommends county residents develop a plan for emergencies, assemble a self-sufficiency kit that contains supplies for three days, and identify ways to stay informed about changing conditions and events.

County staff, including the Department of Emergency Management and the Administrator's Office, provided a draft of the plan in April. It calls for increasing the Department of Emergency Management's presence as a trusted resource for emergency preparedness, response and recovery.

The 24-page community preparedness plan calls for strategies to develop a sustained culture of preparedness. Many county residents are already aware of potential natural disasters and prepared to take action before they happen because of the 2017 wildfires and the February 2019 floods in west Sonoma County, according to the report.
