"We extend our condolences to the family and loved ones of Georgina and Ralph," Napa police Detective Dustin Dodd said in a news release. "This tragic loss not only impacts those closest to them but also reverberates throughout our community."

The suspect in the shooting, Baltazar Rangel Juarez, 28, of Napa, remained hospitalized.

It is alleged that shortly after police identified him as the suspect, an officer tried to pull Juarez over, but he drove off. Law enforcement pursued Juarez and eventually, his car stopped operating in Kennedy Park.

Police then allege Juarez refused to get out of the car, instead arming himself with a gun. He continuously refused to surrender, prompting a standoff until Juarez suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.

"Members of the Napa Police Department would like to thank our community for their assistance and patience while we identified, located, and apprehended the suspect in this case," Dodd said. "We have worked around the clock to conduct this investigation and could not have done it without the assistance of the Napa Major Crimes Team, Napa Sheriff’s Office, Napa Special Investigations Bureau, Napa Fire Department and the Napa County District Attorney’s Office."

Police have not said whether a possible motive in the shooting has been determined.
