Avon Police Association Accepting Ads for Annual Phone Book
The proceeds benefit the association.

It's almost that time of year again.
The Avon Police Association is accepting applications for ad placement in its annual Avon telephone directory.
The association mails the phone book to about 9,000 homes, post office boxes and businesses in Avon.
The department purchases AT&T's list of Avon phone numbers annually for up-to-date information, according to a letter the association sent out about the phone book. If any households do not have AT&T but wish to be included, they may request it.
Residents can purchase additional directories for $3 each. Individuals will be listed as patrons in the phone book after making a suggested donation of $20. Business ads range from $110 to $600.
Avon Police Association is a non-profit run by civilian Avon Police Department personnel.
"Our primary goal is to promote the general welfare of the Avon Police Department and the community we serve," the association said in the letter it sent out to potential advertisers. "We donate to numerous deserving organizations every year and fund numerous other activities and programs."
The association frequently donates to Avon Dollar for Scholars, VFW Post 3272, Avon Little League, Connecticut Special Olympics, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, American Cancer Society and Americares. The charitable organization also supports " a Thanksgiving Dinner for seniors" and delivers holiday gifts to Connecticut Children's Medical Center annually, the letter states.
Chamber of Commerce members will get a discount placing an ad.
The deadline for submitting an ad application is Oct. 31.
