Berlin Animal Control Honored For Keeping Dogs, Cats Alive
The department and its shelter recently earned 'no-kill' status from a prominent national animal rights organization.

BERLIN, CT — The town's animal control department has been honored for its goal in keeping as many of its dogs and cats alive as possible last year.
Berlin Animal Control was recently recognized and awarded by the Best Friends Animal Society in recognition of maintaining or achieving no-kill status during 2024 by exceeding a 90 percent save rate for cats and dogs.

"Best Friends Animal Society’s network has always believed that collaboration is the key to saving more lives," wrote Best Friends in a release issued by the town.
"No one rescue group or shelter can create a no-kill city, and that’s why we work with more than 5,500 shelters and rescue groups throughout the U.S. Best Friends Network Partners are made up of thousands of public and private animal shelters, rescue groups, spay/neuter organizations, and other animal welfare groups, all working to save the lives of dogs and cats in your community and across the country."
