Berlin Creates Area For Dogs To Roam
The town council voted this week to created a leash-free area where folks can let their dogs roam at Pistol Creek Park.
BERLIN, CT — The Berlin Town Council this week has approved creating a permanent area in town where people can let their dogs run free.
On Monday, the council voted to create a fenced-in area at Pistol Creek, an abandoned golf course that is now a town-owned nature preserve featuring miles of hiking trails, for dogs to run free.
The park is located at 600 Spruce Brook Road.

According to a town announcement posted on Berlin's Facebook page, the new dog area will be about 50,000 square feet and it will be located in front of the handicap parking lot off Spruce Brook Road.
The new site comes as the town created a leash ordinance last December, with a temporary area for dogs to roam free created at Bicentennial Park.

Now that the town has a permanent site for leash-free dogs, Pistol Creek will be the only place in town where this is allowed once it opens.
Town officials said they hope this will be ready to open by the end of August.
"Once the fence is up, the off-leash area will be available for all residents who would like to bring their dogs to let them run loose inside the fenced-in area," reads the town's announcement. "Dog owners are required to have control of their dogs at all times."
Dogs at all other town facilities must be on leashes on Pistol Creek is open, including Bicentennial Park.
