Berlin Issues Warning On Snow Removal/Parking Bans

A day after the first measurable snow of the season, Berlin Public Works is reminding residents about snow removal do's and don'ts.

BERLIN, CT — A day after the town dug out from the first measurable snow of this season, Berlin Public Works is reminding residents of the rules and regulations regarding snow removal.

Berlin's public works department Friday reminded residents they can face stiff fines for improperly disposing of snow and ice and/or violating parking bans designed to help them keep the roads passable.

For example, Berlin DPW pointed out the following rules and regulations pertinent to the winter:

• It is illegal to shovel, throw, or plow ice and snow from private property onto a public street.

• Property owners must keep public sidewalks fronting their property free of snow and ice.

"All sidewalks are to be cleared and/or sanded within 24 hours of the completion of street plowing operations," wrote the town.

• Parking bans are automatically in effect when there is an accumulation of 4 inches or more of snow and ice.

• Automated refuse and recycling carts are prohibited from being placed in the roadside during snow and ice removal operations.

Violations of any of the above rules could result in fines of up to $100 per violation.
