The Juneteenth federal holiday is on Thursday, June 19, to mark the official end of slavery in the United States.
BERLIN, CT — Thursday is Juneteenth, a federal holiday, with many towns releasing information on what is open and closed.
In Berlin, all town departments will be closed on Thursday, June 19, in observance of Juneteenth.
The town's normal trash/recycling schedule, however, will apply and will not be impacted.

Among those closed are Berlin Town Hall, the Berlin-Peck Memorial Library, the community center, and the senior center. Schools are already out for summer.
Juneteenth recognizes the official end of slavery in the United States, with the last slaves being freed in Texas on June 19, 1865.
