Labor Day In Berlin, What's Closed?
Monday, Sept. 1, is Labor Day, with people being treated to one last long weekend of summer.
BERLIN, CT — With summer's unofficial end coming this weekend, folks have one more day of relaxation on Monday, Sept. 1, Labor Day.
And, because of that, the Town of Berlin has announced impacts to municipal services due to the holiday. Among them:
• Berlin Town Hall and all town departments are closed on Monday, Sept. 1. They reopen as normal on Tuesday, Sept. 2.

• There will be no trash/recycling on Monday, Sept. 1, and trash/recycling will be picked up one day later.
• The Berlin-Peck Memorial Library is closed Monday, Sept. 1, reopening as normal on Tuesday, Sept. 2.

• Berlin Public Schools are closed Monday, Sept. 1, reopening on Tuesday, Sept. 2.
According to the U.S. Department of Labor, Labor Day is observed on the first Monday in September.
It is an "annual celebration of the social and economic achievements of American workers," wrote federal authorities.
"The holiday is rooted in the late 19th century, when labor activists pushed for a federal holiday to recognize the many contributions workers have made to America’s strength, prosperity, and well-being," wrote federal officials.
