Leash-free Area In Berlin Now Open

Dogs have a place to run freely without anything holding them back.

BERLIN, CT — The fenced-in area at Pistol Creek, as designated by the Berlin Town Council at their July 26 meeting as a leash-free area for dogs is now open, town officials said Monday.

The area is approximately 50,000 square feet, in the middle of the fairway, right in front of the handicap parking lot off Spruce Brook Road.

Visitors are asked to note the rules of the area, which formerly was a golf course, are posted at the entrance to the fenced in area.

Since the leash ordinance was put in place earlier this year, Berlin animal control officers have been patrolling areas in town speaking to many residents educating them on the new leash ordinance.

All dogs must be on a leash in all other public spaces in town.

Town officials said ACOs will be issuing written arnings to individuals who do not have their dogs on leashes in public property.
