Wrong-Way Alert System Going Up On I-84 In Farmington

FARMINGTON, CT — Motorists in the Farmington area will have to exercise some patience while traveling on Interstate 84 Thursday night, March 14.

That's because the Connecticut Department of Transportation has announced the installation of a wrong-way driver detection system on I-84 westbound at Exit 38 in Farmington.

Work is scheduled to take place on Thursday, March 13, as part of ongoing efforts to enhance road safety.

Installation will be carried out by crews Thursday and it will require a temporary closure of I-84 westbound at Exit 38 from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Friday, March 14.

During this time, traffic will be detoured via Exit 37, directing motorists to Fienemann Road and Colt Highway (Route 6).

Drivers are urged to exercise caution and adhere to detour signs while traveling in the area.

Wrong-way collisions are a major concern in Connecticut, with several crashes in recent years claiming lives, including on I-84.

The systems are designed to both warn motorists that they have entered the highway incorrectly and notify police that a driver is going the wrong way.
