State Transportation Officials Touting New Glastonbury Sidewalks

GLASTONBURY, CT β€” Connecticut Department of Transportation officials Monday were touting completion of the Bell Street sidewalk project in Glastonbury.

The funding was announced in 2022 and the project is now completed.

The Glastonbury and similar projects relate to Connecticut being ranked as one of the most bicycle friendly states earlier this month by the League of American Bicyclists, DOT officials said.

Here are some highlights from DOT officials:

  • The Glastonbury project provides direct pedestrian connectivity between Bell Street and several side streets and nearby bike/pedestrian multi-use trails.
  • The new sidewalks also provide new connections to nearby schools, parks, daycare, employment centers, and commercial/retail facilities in Glastonbury.
  • Through the Connectivity Grant Program, the DOT provided the town of Glastonbury $600,000 (78 percent) for the overall $768,075 project. Town funds covered the remainder.
  • The project was part of the fourth round of CCGP Program awards in February 2022.

The CCG Program has provided 138 grants totaling more than $62 million to towns and cities since it was established in 2019 DOT officials said.
