4 South Windsor-Area Nonprofits To Support This Holiday Season

Here's how to contribute locally on Giving Tuesday 2024.

SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — If you’re like many of your neighbors, you may spend a good part of the holiday season with your credit card in hand buying gifts for family and friends. Coming up soon is a chance to give back to the local community.

Giving Tuesday, which in 2024 falls on Dec. 3, is a day dedicated to supporting nonprofit and community groups. Since 2012, nonprofits worldwide have used the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to galvanize fundraising, rally volunteers and add momentum to their causes.

Maintaining funding is a constant challenge for many nonprofits that fill gaps and meet other needs in and near South Windsor.

Here is a sampling of nonprofit organizations to consider getting behind on Giving Tuesday:

  • The South Windsor Community Foundation Inc. was founded in Nov. 2003 by a dedicated group of prominent leaders in South Windsor who saw a need for a locally owned and controlled community foundation. Its purpose is to operate exclusively for educational and charitable purposes and make distribution to organizations that qualify as exempt under Section 501(c)(3).
  • The Friends of Wood Memorial Library & Museum qualifies for corporate matching gifts. Contributions to its endowment helps to provide a permanent, reliable source of funding on an annual basis.
  • The South Windsor Historical Society is a member-supported organization dedicated to the education and preservation of the history of South Windsor. Founded in 1947, its goal is to serve residents, local school students, college students, visitors, business and governmental departments who are seeking to understand, interpret and learn about the history of the town.
  • The Bridge, an outreach ministry of Our Savior Lutheran Church, provides food, gently used clothing and case management services to individuals and families facing a temporary financial crisis. The food pantry is stocked with a variety of healthy food choices: canned vegetables, whole wheat pasta, natural peanut butter, whole grain cereal, meats, and whenever possible, fresh fruits and vegetables.
