Dedicated Volunteer At School And In Town: South Windsor Star Student
We all know students who excel in academic, fine arts or volunteer service. Here's one resident who is making an impact in South Windsor.

SOUTH WINDSOR , CT — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.
Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.
This submission comes from Daria Plummer, who nominated Audrey, a senior at South Windsor High School.
Star local student’s name: Audrey

How do you know the star local student?
As a friend of the family and a local community volunteer.
Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?
Audrey is an extremely mature, motivated and compassionate young woman. While completely well-rounded and outstanding in both academics and sports, what sets Audrey apart is her extracurricular activities. These activities center on children, youth and older adults in need. Audrey has not only been extremely active in South Windsor for the Kids Club all four of her high school years (raising money for the Connecticut Children's Medical Center), but she also has been active throughout high school with Unified Sports classes. The needs of others, younger and older - understanding those who may need some extra attention - defines Audrey. She has worked with younger children since sixth grade and throughout high school, and now spends a great deal of her "extra, own" time with those with challenges. Most telling is that Audrey volunteers regularly at a local assisted living facility (The Residence) in the memory care unit. She understands from personal experience how memory loss illnesses affect families and has transferred her compassion forward to others.
What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?
Audrey has a smile that does not stop. She welcomes all into her world with that warm, beautiful smile. She is real. Audrey currently makes all around her better. As she goes forward, with a focus on special education, she will continue to make this world a better place.
Congratulations on your achievements, and all of our best wishes to you in the future, Audrey.
