Ellington Man ID'd As Truck Driver Killed On I-91 In North Haven
Police are investigating after a tow truck driver was struck and killed by an SUV while assisting another vehicle on I-91 in North Haven.
NORTH HAVEN, CT — Police have identified a tow truck driver who was struck and killed by an SUV Saturday night on I-91 while assisting a broken-down vehicle as Christopher M. Russell, 38, of Ellington.
Russell was assisting a disabled vehicle in the right shoulder on I-91 North just before Exit 11 in North Haven around 6:20 p.m. He was struck by the driver of a 2015 Nissan Rogue while in the right breakdown lane behind the disabled vehicle, a 2008 Mazda, according to Connecticut State Police.
Police said Russell suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead by Nelson Ambulance Company personnel.

The driver of the Nissan Rogue continued north on I-91 and collided with the wire-rope guiderail along the median near Exit 14, according to police.
Police said the driver was found unconscious and taken to MidState Medical Center for evaluation.
