5 Charities and Knights of Columbus come together to fight hunger (Anton Miranda)

On Wednesday, October 8th, the Knights of Columbus Council 5779 of South Windsor proudly welcomed representatives from five local charities: Midwest Food Bank New England, South Windsor Food & Fuel Bank, St. Vincent DePaul South Windsor, Immacare Shelter Hartford, and CRT Family Shelter East Hartford. Each organization was chosen for its demonstrated need and unwavering commitment to serving those most vulnerable in our community.

Donations were presented from the proceeds of the St. Junipero Serra Golf Tournament, held on September 6th. This year’s focus—addressing food insecurity—comes at a crucial time. Rising costs, limited resources, and reduced public funding mean that one in seven of our neighbors struggles to put food on the table.

Providing food to those in need requires more than funding—it takes dedicated volunteers who find, sort, prepare, and serve with compassion. The combined efforts of these organizations, working alongside the Knights of Columbus and St. Junipero Serra Parish, bring nourishment and hope to thousands of families each year.
