SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — One of Dr. Seuss’ most famous literary creations was brought to life Friday by South Windsor Parks and Recreation at its annual Grinchmas event. The favorite storytime and holiday movie character was available for a personal visit between 6:30 and 8 p.m.
This family-friendly event has been operational since 2018 and is one of the many ways South Windsor residents kick off their holiday season.

"The Parks and Rec department has been hosting this event for so long. I have had the opportunity to make memories with all my children at Grinchmas," South Windsor resident Kristen Stearns said.
Families arrived promptly at 6:30, anxiously awaiting the Grinch's arrival. During the suspenseful wait, children were encouraged to participate in the many crafts and puzzles provided by the Parks and Recreation faculty. Families enjoyed personalizing a Christmas ornament, completing Grinch-themed crossword puzzles and even picking out a temporary tattoo.

A photo booth area was provided for families to capture the memories of a new or recurring holiday tradition. Hats, scarves and glasses were laid out for the children to wear in their photos, making the experience more authentic.
"I look forward to the excited kids and families, that is what drives this event," recreation supervisor Shelby Kosa said.
Kosa's passion for children and position as a South Windsor Parks and Recreation supervisor makes her an important factor in the continuous operation of this event.
"I get just as excited as the children, I love seeing their faces light up when they see the Grinch, it is truly magical," she told The Prowl.
Although Grinchmas only occurs once each year, the South Windsor community appreciates the town tradition and will gladly wait for the next one in 2024.
