I-291 West Ropens After Jack-Knifed Truck, Spill Caused Closure

A jack-knifed tractor trailer and a "large diesel spill" caused I-291 westbound to close at exit 4 in South Windsor on Tuesday.

SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — I-291 westbound at exit 4 in South Windsor has reopened after it closed due to a jack-knifed tractor trailer and a diesel spill Tuesday morning.

The highway initially closed at around 11:12 a.m., Connecticut State Police tweeted.

Firefighters from South Windsor and Manchester responded to a "large diesel spill" at the scene of the closure, the South Windsor Fire Department tweeted at around 11:36 a.m.

No injuries have been reported and the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection also responded to the scene, the South Windsor Fire Department tweeted.

"Jack-knifed" is used to describe when a large truck folds in on itself, creating a shape that resembles a pocketknife or jackknife, according to Anastopoulo Law Firm.
