SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — On an absolutely perfect evening to be outdoors, camaraderie between first responders, municipal employees and the community at-large was on full display during South Windsor's inaugural National Night Out.

The community-building campaign that promotes police and community partnerships drew hundreds of residents Tuesday to the Rotary Pavilion at Nevers Road Park. They interacted with local police, firefighters, emergency personnel and members of civic organizations, while music played, games abounded and food was aplenty.

Sgt. Ron Littell, who works in community outreach for the police department, said, "It's a great event with a lot of people. I've done a lot of community events before, and it's a team effort."

"The response has been great and we were banking on good weather, and we got that," Police Chief Kristian Lindstrom said. "Everybody seems to be happy and engaged. The command staff and I really felt that the community and our agency post-pandemic wanted to bridge any gaps that were there. People have been inside for a long time, we had been inside for a long time, we'd been masked up for a long time so this was a good opportunity to get back out with the community. In an age of police reform, I think it's important to continue to have as many non-confrontational contacts again with the community."
