Rail Replacement Project To Cause Traffic Disruption In South Windsor
Several intersections with Route 5 will close temporarily Wednesday as work progresses, according to police.

SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — Replacement of a large section of rail will cause some traffic disruption for several hours Wednesday in the southwestern portion of South Windsor, according to police.
The CT Southern Railroad will be working starting around 9:30 a.m. just north of Ellington Road (Route 30) and finishing at Strong Road. The replacement of the rails will be done by a slow-moving train, about 2,000 feet in length, dropping large sections of rail along the tracks as it moves north. Without delays, the work is expected to take 4-5 hours to complete, police said.
In addition to a private driveway at 450 John Fitch Boulevard, brief closures will occur at five junctions with Route 5. They are:

- Chapel Road
- Pleasant Valley Road
- South Satellite Road
- Governors Highway
- Strong Road
Police will be stationed on each side of the railroad crossings at each intersection and
the Connecticut Department of Transportation and South Windsor Public Works will provide
rolling detours as each intersection is closed, then reopened as the train moves north, according to police.
