South Windsor In COVID 'Red Zone' As Cases Rise Statewide
The number of high alert "red zone" municipalities more than doubled in the past week, and South Windsor is among the new additions.

SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — South Windsor is among a group of Connecticut municipalities that are in the COVID-19 "red zone," the highest level possible.
According to state Department of Health data released Thursday, South Windsor reported 18 coronavirus cases from March 13-19 and 46 cases from March 20-26, putting its case rate at 17.5 per 100,000.
(It's important to note that a few cases can have a large impact on a municipal case rate, especially for small towns.)

Municipalities are in the red zone once they report 15 or more cases per 100,000 people. This week, 20 Connecticut towns are in the red zone, up from just eight the previous week.
Last Thursday, South Windsor was in the "yellow zone," according to state data.

South Windsor is faring worse than its neighboring towns: The data released Thursday shows that East Windsor and Ellington are in the "orange zone" (the second-highest level), while East Hartford and Manchester are in the "yellow zone."
As of Wednesday, 90.58 percent of South Windsor's population has received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 84.51 percent is fully vaccinated, according to state data.
