SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — The polls have closed in South Windsor and vote counting is under way in several key federal and state races, including the office of governor, U.S. Senator, Congress, and local state senators and representatives.

3rd Senate

Democratic incumbent Saud Anwar won his third term, beating back the challenge of Republican Matt Harper.

"I cannot express my gratitude to the people of East Hartford, East Windsor, Ellington and South Windsor enough," Anwar said. "Their support reaffirms my strength and commitment to working toward a better Connecticut. Amid an uncertain and unstable national and global outlook, our state’s resiliency and capacity to succeed remains unbroken. I will approach this term like I have approached my first two, with my constituents and the best interests of our state in mind at all times."

5th House

Maryam Khan, a Democrat, cruised to victory by nearly tripling the vote total of Republican Charles Windsor Jackson III. Elijah El-Hajj-Bey received more than 100 votes as a petitioning candidate.

14th House

Republican Tom Delnicki retained his seat in the General Assembly by nearly 500 votes over Democratic challenger Erica Evans. Marek Kozikowski of the United Community Party received more than 270 votes, according to unofficial totals from the Secretary of the State's office.

Judge of Probate

Democrat Mary Deneen more than doubled the vote total of Republican Tad J. Bistor, with 12 of 16 precincts reporting as of 1:30 a.m.
