Holidays are fraught with stress around food and weight gain, but now options are available to renegotiate your relationship with food.

Dr. Christine Najjar is the founder of Food First MD, a Connecticut based medical practice focused on empowering people to regain control of their health with the most underutilized medicine, food.

As an Internal and Obesity Medicine Physician, Najjar helps patients heal from ailments, optimize weigh, and obtain ‘food freedom.’ She is now accepting appointments and new patients in her South Windsor, CT office at 1330 Sullivan Ave D, South Windsor, either in person or via Telehealth.

Najjar was first drawn to the intricacies of the human body and nutrition from her own personal experience and shares, “I was born and raised in New York’s Hudson Valley, and spent summers in my parent’s native land of Lebanon, where I grew to love Mediterranean cuisine. Every summer I spent there I felt vibrant, clear, energized and light. Even better, my waistline seemed to always shrink! When I returned to the United States, everything quickly reversed.”

Yearning to understand how food affects the body, Najjar studied biochemistry at McGill University and medicine at St. George’s University. She spent the latter two years of medical school practicing in various Brooklyn hospitals where she was exposed to the band aid of modern medicine and an overwhelming amount of chronic illness and disease. With a growing desire to deepen her nutrition-specific education, she executed a Master’s in Human Nutrition at Columbia University while participating in medical school clinical rotations.

Despite her education, Najjar found herself struggling to optimize her own health. She questioned, “How am I going to heal patients if I can’t heal myself?” Committed to finding solutions, she built upon her years of education, took a deep dive into literature and expanded her views beyond the tools that were put in front of her.

After completing residency at the University of Connecticut, she worked as both a weight loss consultant and a primary care physician. In 2022, she launched Food First MD, with a mission to bring health back to healthcare.

Driven to help patients avoid years of frustration, ineffective treatments, and debilitating ailments, Najjar reaches patients with an unprecedented level of both knowledge and compassion. Cristin, age 32 shares that “Dr. Christine not only helped me resolve my medical issues, but she helped me to understand them. It is so relieving to have a doctor work with you every step of the way and give you the power to understand and strengthen your health. Her passion, patience and knowledge changes lives.”

Using a food first approach, she has helped countless patients reverse disease, reach an optimal weight, and reduce (or eliminate) the need for traditional medications. For example, Lucy, age 70, exclaims, “Believe me, Dr. Christine Najjar she is the real deal!!! Today, I am completely off all medications and all my blood work is normal. I will forever be thankful for her help and support with lifestyle changes which are making a huge difference in my health, happiness, and overall well-being. Dr. Christine is a very professional, supportive and caring person. I highly recommend her to anyone who desires to live a healthy inspired lifestyle.”

When Najjar isn't walking her dog, reading a book, or enjoying the beauty (and challenges) of being a new mom, she can be found in the kitchen experimenting with new recipes and dishes. Her cooking is not only a passion, but also a form of practicing what she preaches. Leading by example, Najjar encourages her patients to take control of their health with her favorite medicine... food!
