6 DC Restaurants And Chefs Are James Beard Awards Nominees

Restaurants and rising D.C. chefs have been nominated for James Beard Foundation awards this week. Here are the venues up for honors.

WASHINGTON, DC — The culinary scene in Washington, D.C., is represented by six restaurants in the 2024 Restaurant and Chef Awards nominees announced Wednesday by the James Beard Foundation. Nearby Maryland's food scene is also recognized with three nominees.

There are six nominees in Washington, D.C.:

Outstanding Restaurateur:

Outstanding Pastry Chef or Baker:
● Susan Bae, Moon Rabbit, Washington, D.C.

Outstanding Wine and Other Beverages Program:
● Tail Up Goat, Washington, D.C.

Best Chef: Mid-Atlantic:
● Kevin Tien, Moon Rabbit, Washington, D.C.

Maryland nominees are:
Outstanding Bar:
Clavel Mezcaleria, Baltimore

Best Chef: Mid-Atlantic:
● Tony Conte, Inferno Pizzeria Napoletana, Darnestown
● Harley Peet, Bas Rouge, Easton

The James Beard Awards, first presented in 1991, recognize exceptional talent in the culinary and food media industries and are often regarded as the “Oscars of culinary arts.” They recognize a range of experiences, from fine-dining restaurants to casual gems, in 22 categories.

Winners will be announced June 10 in a ceremony at the Lyric Opera of Chicago.
