Civil Rights Executive Dies In Traffic Crash In Northwest Washington
Cassidy Karakorn, an executive with the Human Rights Campaign, died in a traffic crash Saturday night.

WASHINGTON, DC — A 39-year-old civil rights executive was killed in a traffic collision while she was driving her scooter Saturday night in Northeast Washington.
Police responded to the fatal crash in the 1100 block of Florida Ave., NE at about 11:17 p.m. Officers determined that Cassidy Karakorn, of Northeast, was driving her Piaggio scooter eastbound on Florida Avenue when she was struck by a Volkswagen Touareg.
The driver of the Volkswagen Touareg attempted to make a U-turn from the far right lane to go westbound on Florida Avenue, police said. As the Touareg crossed the left lane of travel, the scooter struck the driver's side of the car.

DC Fire and EMS arrived on the scene and transported the Karakorn to an area hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The Washington Post identified Karakorn as an executive with the Human Rights Campaign. She was the director of consumer marketing and had worked with the organization since 2001.
