DC Restaurant Makes Eater's 'Best New Restaurant' List
Eater's national critic, Bill Addison, named a DC restaurant on Eater's "18 Best New Restaurants in America" list.

WASHINGTON, DC — A popular DC restaurant was recently named one of the best new restaurants in America by Eater. Maydan, in the U Street area, was featured on the list for their North American and Middle Eastern dishes.
Eater's national critic, Bill Addison, released the list of the 18 restaurants on July 25.
Each restaurant opened between May 2017 and May 2018 and are found across the country in cities like Los Angeles, New Orleans, New York, Seattle and more.

"These chefs and restaurateurs stand out by gamely revealing themselves — by showing heart in their hospitality, remarkable ingenuity, and individuality on their menus," Addison writes. "They are, each of them, leading lights and future influencers."
New restaurants come and go, but we have a feeling Maydan will stick around.

The restaurant opened last November and is known for its Middle Eastern and Mediterranean dishes like lamb shoulder, Beiruti-style hummus and flatbreads.
"The restaurant’s centerpiece hearth — a blazing fire pit outfitted with grills and two clay ovens for baking delightfully misshapen, floppy-crackery flatbreads — sets a dramatic scene."
Maydan means "gathering place" or "square."
Owner Rose Previte and chefs Gerald Addison and Chris Morganbring "welcome attention to a span of the world whose wondrous cuisines remain perplexingly undersung in the United States," Addison says.
The dishes are meant to share and encourage diners to engage with each other through food.
"You’ll feel like you’ve met new friends—a new family—who will guide you through the square to a table full of dishes," Maydan's website says.

Repost: @bill_addison. Well, thank you Eater and Bill Addison for this fabulous review! So glad you were there for the goat special. But if the kitchen starts asking for “Fire Gods” t-shirts, you’re in trouble. Link to full review in bio.
