DC Students, Teachers Get Extra Day To Test Negative For COVID-19

Teachers and staff members at D.C. Public Schools will have until 10 a.m. on Wednesday to upload a negative COVID-19 test result.

WASHINGTON, DC — Teachers and staff members at D.C. Public Schools will have until 10 a.m. on Wednesday to upload a negative COVID-19 test result before schools reopen Thursday from winter break.

Students must upload proof of a negative COVID-19 test by 4 p.m. Wednesday in order to attend school on Thursday.

Students were originally scheduled to return from winter break on Wednesday. But Monday’s winter storm pushed back the start of school in the District by one day.

The school system is requiring all students, teachers and staff members to show a negative COVID-19 test in order to return to in-person learning.

Rapid antigen tests will be available to pick up by families at any DCPS school from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday. Families must upload the results — either a photo or PDF, along with contact information — to dcps.dc.gov/safereturn.

If a student tests positive, they should contact their school's main office to let them know about the reason for their absence. Any student who tests positive for COVID-19 should then follow the proper procedures for isolation.
