Driver Tries To Run Over Woman In Northeast: Police

Anthony Castanho was arrested for "accelerating his vehicle" towards a woman and trying to hit her in Northeast Washington, police said.

WASHINGTON, DC — A man was arrested Saturday for allegedly trying to strike a woman with his car in Northwest Washington.

The incident occurred at about 1:04 a.m. Saturday in the 1200 block of Connecticut Ave. NW. The suspect "accelerated his vehicle" towards a woman in an attempt to strike her, police said. The victim was able to dodge the car and wasn't struck.

Anthony Castanho, 28, of Fredrick, Md. was arrested at the scene. Police charged him with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (vehicle).
