Drivers Rescued From Flooding Near Washington Monument (Video)
Extraordinary video shows rescuers helping drivers to safety in the heart of the National Mall on Monday.
WASHINGTON, DC -- Record-setting rainfall Monday morning stranded drivers near the Washington Monument in the heart of the National Mall on Monday, forcing rescuers to spring into action.
D.C. Fire and EMS tweeted video of rescuers using life rafts to reach drivers at 15th Street S and Constitution Ave. NW, which is located right next to the National Monument and a block away from the White House.
They later tweeted that rescuers had "removed several occupants to safety from cars in high water."

The Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang reported that 3.3 inches of rain fell in one hour at Reagan National Airport, the heaviest rain ever for today's date and among the top 10 heaviest single-day events in July on record.
