Easter Egg Roll Returning To White House After 2-Year Gap Due To COVID

The White House Easter Egg Roll and Spring Garden Tours are returning in 2022 after being canceled the previous two years due to COVID.

WASHINGTON, DC — The White House Easter Egg Roll is returning in 2022 after getting canceled the previous two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the White House announced Thursday.

The White House Easter Egg Roll has been a tradition since 1878. Held on the South Lawn on the Monday after Easter, the White House lets thousands of children participate in egg rolling and other activities.

In 2022, the Easter Egg Roll will take place on Monday, April 18, the first time it has been held in person since 2019.

White House Easter Egg Roll tickets are free to the public and can be requested through an online lottery starting on Friday, March 25 at 10 a.m., and closing on Thursday, March 31, at 10 a.m.

Randomly selected lottery winners for the Easter Egg Roll will be notified by email by Thursday, April 7.

Also on Thursday, the White House announced that Spring Garden Tours are returning to the complex. The White House gardens and South Grounds will be open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 9 and Sunday, April 10.

The tours are free and open to the public. A ticket is required for all attendees, including small children.

The National Park Service will distribute free, timed tickets for the Spring Garden Tours at a tent stationed near the Ellipse Visitors Pavilion each day beginning at 8:30 a.m. The entry point for all guests will be located near the intersection of 15th Street NW and Constitution Avenue NW.

Tickets will be distributed, one ticket per person, on a first-come, first-served basis.

Volunteers interested in working at the White House Easter Egg Roll can apply through an online application. The deadline to submit a White House Easter Egg Roll volunteer application is Thursday, March 31 at 10 a.m.

The White House said it is closely monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic. Adjustments could be made to the availability of public tours based on guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and medical experts.

Anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19, or has been in close contact with someone confirmed or suspected to have COVID-19 within 10 days prior to their planned visit, is not permitted to enter the White House grounds.

Face masks will be available when entering the White House complex for those who choose to wear them.
