Heavy Snow Blankets DC, Baltimore Region: Photos
The first big winter storm of 2025 caused school closures and flight cancellations. See photos from D.C., Baltimore and Annapolis.

WASHINGTON, DC — The new year has brought heavy snow, freezing temperatures and black ice to multiple states over the weekend. Final snow totals on Tuesday may reach 8 to 12 inches in parts of Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Maryland.
The storm caused plenty of flight cancellations and delays, leaving passengers stranded at airports from Kansas City to Baltimore. Schools across the Baltimore-DC region canceled classes in anticipation of the storm.
Snow plows and crews worked around the clock at the U.S. Capitol to prepare roads for a joint session of Congress that convened Monday to certify the votes from the Electoral College in the 2024 presidential election.
