WASHINGTON, DC — Cities and counties across the country continue to bring back many of the traditional Independence Day activities that were either canceled or modified the last two years.

July 4 is just around the corner, so it's time to find out what Fourth of July fireworks and festivities are going on near you in 2022.

Fireworks on the National Mall

National Park Service will once again be hosting a fireworks show on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. The display is scheduled to commence at 9:09 p.m, on Monday, July 4.

Fireworks will be launched from both sides of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool and should be visible from the National Mall and across the Potomac and Anacostia rivers.


"A Capitol Fourth" Concert from Washington, D.C.

If you can't make it to the National Mall to enjoy the National Park Service's Independence Day fireworks show on July 4, why not do the next best thing — watch "A Capitol Fourth" on PBS.

Four-time Grammy nominee Mickey Guyton will be hosting the 42nd edition of PBS' annual Independence Day celebration.

“I am so excited to be hosting 'A Capitol Fourth' this year live from Washington, D.C.,” Mickey Guyton said, in a release. “It’s an honor to be leading our nation’s 246th birthday celebration, and to share music, fun and fireworks with my family and all of yours!”

Guyton will be joined by an all-star cast to present a rousing evening of patriot performances by stars from pop, country, R&B, classical and Broadway. The National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of conductor Jack Everly will also be performing.

"A Capitol Fourth" will air from 8-9:30 p.m., on PBS and for U.S. service members around the world on the American Forces Network. The program will also be broadcast in stereo on NPR member stations nationwide. It will also be live-streamed on YouTube and www.pbs.org/a-capitol-fourth. The program will also be available as Video on Demand from July 4-18.


National Independence Parade

Come celebrate the 4th of July with marching bands, floats, military units, giant balloons, equestrian riders, drill teams and other patriotic fare. From 11:45 a.m. to 2 p.m, the Independence Day Parade travels along Constitution Avenue, Northwest from 7th Street Northwest to 17th Street Northwest.


Smithsonian Folklife Festival

Visitors to the National Mall can explore the Smithsonian Folklife Festival, which runs June 22-27 and June 30-July 4. On July 4, it will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., between 7th and 12th streets. This year's festival explores the culture of the United Arab Emirates and Earth Optimism.


Family Activities at the Sylvan Family Activity Center

Visitors to the Sylvan Family Activity Center on the grounds off the Washington Monument can find a variety of fun, family-friendly activities. Be sure to stop by between 3-8 p.m., on July 4, to complete your Independence Day Junior Ranger booklet in order to earn a special Junior Ranger badge.
