MAL Weekend Celebrates 40 Years of Fetish and Kink
The LGBTQ festival returns to Washington, D.C.

MAL Weekend makes its return to Washington, D.C. this week, marking its 40th anniversary. Once again, Centaur Motorcycle Club, the founders of this iconic celebration of leather culture and LGBTQ+ pride, are joining forces with local event producers KINETIC Presents. Together, they are presenting a dynamic lineup of immersive dance parties and events that pay tribute to the legacy of Mid-Atlantic Leather (MAL) while infusing the vibrancy of contemporary LGBTQ+ nightlife.
One of the key goals of KINETIC: KINK, co-produced by Dougie Meyer, is to blend the legacy of MAL with a contemporary twist. This is evident in their approach to curating events that balance the traditions of the leather community with the desires of younger, more diverse audiences. “We carefully balance honoring leather traditions with forward-thinking elements, creating events that resonate with long-time attendees while attracting new participants to the MAL experience,” Meyer shared. A prime example of this innovative approach is the selection of Gigi Goode, a superstar from RuPaul’s Drag Race, as the headliner for the main event on Saturday night. While Goode may not traditionally be associated with the leather scene, her broad appeal to younger LGBTQ+ audiences adds a fresh dynamic to the weekend, inviting new faces to explore the leather culture and its rich history.
Attendees can expect a thrilling weekend packed with cutting-edge performances and world-class DJs known for their ability to create immersive, unforgettable dance floor experiences. KINETIC Presents is renowned for its ability to bring the energy and excitement of the dance floor to life, and this year’s KINK Weekend is no exception. With state-of-the-art sound systems, lighting, and visuals, every event is designed to captivate the senses. For those looking for a more adventurous experience, themed play areas will be available, allowing participants to explore their kink interests in a consensual and safe environment. Throughout the weekend, surprise performers and fetish acts will add an extra layer of excitement, ensuring that the celebration remains unpredictable and captivating. From the electrifying beats to the dramatic performances, KINK Weekend will be an unforgettable highlight of MAL 2025.

This partnership creates a unique opportunity to engage both long-time members of the leather community and newer, younger audiences, blending history with modernity to shape the future of LGBTQ+ celebrations.
Safety and consent are top priorities for the organizers of MAL Weekend. To ensure a respectful and comfortable environment, KINETIC Presents has implemented robust safety measures, including prominent signage and event materials that highlight the importance of consent. Attendees are reminded that all interactions, including physical touch, play, or photography, require mutual consent. To further enhance safety, KINETIC Presents collaborates with local authorities and includes members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Liaison Unit (LGBTLU) to provide support throughout the weekend’s events.
