Man With Machete Arrested At U.S. Capitol Ahead Of Trump Visit
Police said the north side of the Capitol Visitor's Center was briefly closed Wednesday after a man with a machete and knives was arrested.
WASHINGTON, DC — A man is facing multiple charges after authorities said he attempted to bring a machete and knives into the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., as dignitaries pay their respects to the late President Jimmy Carter.
The incident happened about 2 p.m., just hours before President-elect Donald Trump was scheduled to visit the casket of Carter, whose remains lie in state in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda.
According to U.S. Capitol Police, the man was stopped during a security screening at the Capitol Visitor's Center when an officer spotted a machete in his bag. Police arrested the man and secured the machete.

During a search of the man's bag, police said officers also found three knives.
Security screening at the north side of the Capitol Visitor Center was temporarily stopped while police investigated the incident.

The man was charged with multiple counts of carrying a dangerous weapon. Police did not release his name.
