Columbia Heights Metro Station Shooter Arrested (UPDATES)

Cesar Morales is wanted for shooting at a man down an escalator in the Columbia Heights Metro station. He's considered armed and dangerous.

(Updated at 11:15 a.m. Friday) WASHINGTON, DC — A 22-year-old man was arrested for shooting at a victim down an escalator inside the Columbia Heights Metro station.

In a Thursday afternoon press conference, Chief Peter Newsham said officers are searching for Cesar Morales, who is considered armed and dangerous.

Morales was found in Montgomery County, Md. Thursday night, police said. He is now in custody.

Surveillance footage shows Morales shooting at a victim down an escalator inside the metro station at about 12:15 p.m. Aug. 25. Police say two suspects were chasing the victim in the station when one of the suspects brandished a handgun and fired.

Responding officers saw a man in the area who matched the suspect's description and chased him. The man escaped and threw his gun in the 3300 block of 16th St. NW, police said. The man was later identified as Morales, police said.

Police describe Morales as a Hispanic male, between 5'2" and 5'5" tall, 150 pounds with brown eyes and black hair. He has several visible tattoos on his face and neck, police said.
