WASHINGTON, DC — 2022's surprising weather is not over yet for the Washington, D.C. metro region, according to the latest update from the National Weather Service.

A large swath of D.C., Virginia and Maryland faces a 30-50 percent chance of light freezing rain or drizzle on Wednesday morning. This could leave what NWS describes as "a light glaze of ice accumulation" on area roads, creating potentially hazardous conditions for commuters.

NWS warned commuters that they may encounter significant delays on Wednesday if the freezing rain materializes during the morning rush hour.

Drivers have already had a large share of weather-related accidents on D.C. and Northern Virginia roads this week. Monday's winter storm dumped nearly a foot of snow in some areas and stranded hundreds of vehicles on I-95 overnight.

In addition more than 260,000 Virginians were still without power midday on Tuesday, after heavy snow and high winds knocked down power lines. Dominion Energy, which was working to restore power to 130,000 of its customers at 11 a.m., called the storm one of the five worst the utility company has ever faced.
