Motorcyclist Killed In Crash In Northwest Washington: Authorities

Demitris Mitchell, 23, was killed in a crash near Howard University in Northwest Washington late Sunday night, authorities said.

WASHINGTON, DC — A motorcyclist was killed in a crash near Howard University in Northwest Washington late Sunday night, authorities said.

The incident occurred in the 2400 block of 5th St. NW. at about 10:07 p.m. The decedent has been identified as Demitris Mitchell, 23, of Northwest.

Police say Mitchell was operating a Honda CBR600R motorcycle and accelerated through a red light at McMillan Drive Northwest. Mitchell continued into the 2400 block of 5th St. NW., where a witness saw him crash into a guardrail, police said.

DC Fire and EMS arrived on the scene and transported Mitchell to an area hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, authorities say.
