NoVA, DC Weather: Wind Advisory, First Snow Could Fall

Light snow is possible on Saturday in NoVA and DC, while a wind advisory is in effect Friday afternoon with gusts of 50 mph.

WASHINGTON, DC — Parts of northern Virginia and the District are expected to see a dusting of snow the day after Thanksgiving, while much of the state will be buffeted with wind gusts of up to 50 mph that could down tree limbs, forecasters said Friday.

"Temperatures will hold relatively steady or fall throughout the day as strong northwesterly winds behind a cold front usher much cooler air into the region. Snow showers will continue along the Allegheny Front, where minor accumulations are possible," the National Weather Service said Friday morning.

A wind advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. Friday. Northwest winds of 20 to 30 mph will sweep the state with gusts up to 50 mph that may result in sporadic tree and power line damage, the weather service said. Remain alert if traveling through wooded areas, and avoid them if possible.
