Suspect in police officer's death ordered held on no bond (wjla.com) — A D.C. judge has ordered Jerrold Coates held without bond in the death of Metropolitan Police Officer Terry Bennett, who was struck on I-695 near South Capitol Street while helping a stranded driver. Bennett, a Southeast Washington native and Ballou High graduate, later died from his injuries, and his wife has launched a GoFundMe to support their young son as prosecutors await toxicology results and consider additional charges.
   

2. National Guard captain helps deliver baby inside car days before Christmas (wusa9.com) — A D.C.-assigned Air National Guard nurse helped deliver a baby in a car outside Walter Reed National Military Medical Center just before Christmas, calmly guiding a panicked family through a dangerous moment. Captain April McClung used decades of obstetrics and emergency experience to assist with the birth, including helping resolve an umbilical cord complication before mother and newborn were safely taken inside.
