WASHINGTON, DC-- As predicted, the cherry blossoms are currently in full bloom in the nation's capitol. Visitors from across the country are making the pilgrimage to see the beautiful pink spring trees and their flowering buds.

The trees, initially a gift from Japan in 1912 by Mayor Yukio Ozaki of Tokyo City, were planted in the Tidal Basin. The festival celebrating the tree's blossoms always draws a huge crowd.

Although DC's Tidal Basin is currently alive with the pink pastel flowering trees, some trees are not thriving quite as well. One infamous tree dubbed "Stumpy" is known for its stump-like appearance and singular branch of flowers.

Unfortunately, this season's blooms will be the last for Stumpy. Several other cherry blossom trees along with Stumpy will be taken down after all the flowers have fallen. This is due to the rising waters levels from the basin; the salt water has impacted the tree's health.

But while this might be Stumpy's last stand, the tree is still sporting a full branch of the cherry blossoms.

Make sure to catch a glimpse of the trees before the end of spring. Check out the photos below of the DC cherry blossoms and Stumpy.
