DC Mayor Muriel Bowser Tests Positive For COVID-19 After Taking A PCR Test On Wednesday

Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser revealed on Twitter Thursday morning that she tested positive for COVID-19 after taking a PCR test.

WASHINGTON, DC — D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser revealed on Twitter that she tested positive for COVID-19.

"Friends - Yesterday, I tested positive for COVID. After experiencing allergy symptoms this week, I took an at-home test yesterday and a PCR test confirmed the positive result," Bowser posted to her official Twitter account at 9:15 a.m. on Thursday. "Prayerfully, my household will remain negative. I continue to experience mild cold-like/allergy-like symptoms. I’m grateful that I can work at home while following isolation protocols."

Bowser took advantage of her announcement to remind District residents that the city operated a number of testing centers where residents could go if they had COVID-19 symptoms.

"The best way to know if it’s COVID or your seasonal allergies is to get tested," she said, in a Twitter post. "Visit your neighborhood COVID center. The best way to avoid serious illness is to get vaccinated and boosted. To obtain a test or to get vaccinated & boosted."

  • Ward 1, 800 Euclid St., Northwest, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Ward 2, 926 F St., Northwest, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Ward 3, 5335 Wisconsin Ave., Northwest, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m
  • Ward 4, 4704 13th St., Northwest, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Ward 5, 2350 Washington Place, Northeast, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Ward 6, 507 8th St., Southeast, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Ward 7, 3929 Minnesota Ave., Northeast, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Ward 8, 3640 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave., Southeast, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Individuals who received a pediatric first dose of the Pfizer (5-11) vaccine and turned 12 before their second dose is required to receive an adult dose of Pfizer before they can receive their second dose of vaccine.

Community spread of COVID-19 in the District remains low, according to the latest numbers provided by DC Health. As of March 27, there was an average of 110.4 new cases of COVID-19 in the city and 2 percent of the District's hospital beds are occupied by COVID-19 patients.

As of Wednesday, 1,459,401 total doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the District, with 94.2 percent of the city's population being partly or fully vaccinated.
