Possible Link To 10-Year-Old’s Murder In Carjacking Case

Police arrested a man who they believe carjacked a vehicle that was used in the murder of 10-year-old Makiyah Wilson.

WASHINGTON, DC — A man who stole the car that was used in the murder of 10-year-old Makiyah Wilson has been arrested, authorities said.

Kevin Eugene Jones, 20, of Lanham was charged by the Prince George's County Police Department with armed carjacking, first- and-second-degree-assault, use of a firearm in a felony and theft of the car.

Police said the carjacking happened on July 1, about two weeks before Wilson was fatally shot near her home in Clay Terrace.

Police said four masked men got out of a black, four-door Infiniti sedan and opened fire in a courtyard area of 300 block of 53rd St. NE. at around 8 p.m. July 16.

"When the dust settled, 10-year-old Makiyah Wilson was left dead and four others had suffered gunshot wounds," Police Chief Peter Newsham said at a press conference.

Court records obtained by Fox5 said a woman was parked outside of her home when two men pulled up behind her. One man was allegedly armed with a gun and told the woman to get out of the car.

The victim refused and was allegedly pistol-whipped by a suspect.

It is unclear whether Jones is a person of interest in the murder of Wilson.

"I would think that any man that was responsible for a death of a 10-year-old by way of a bullet in our community would come down to 101 M St., to our homicide unit, and turn themselves in," Newsham said. "These five men have chosen not to do that, so we intend to do everything that's possibly in our power to find out who is responsible and hold them accountable."

Video shows the suspects, armed with handguns and at least one assault weapon, fired over 70 rounds in multiple directions, Newsham said.

Wilson and multiple adults were taken to local hospitals for treatment. Wilson was declared dead after all life-saving efforts failed.
