WASHINGTON, DC — Metrorail will continue to operate at reduced service levels through the end of the year, according to a Tuesday afternoon release. Metro also announced its holiday hours for Metrorail, Metrobus and MetroAccess.

The first 7000-series railcars began transporting customers once again on Friday, after being sidelined for two months due to safety concerns. Metro announced on Wednesday that it was going to begin cycling-in 336 of the railcars gradually over a 90 day period. This would allow workers a chance to get used to the new safety protocols that were put in place after the Oct. 16 derailment of a Blue Line train in Virginia.

Since the derailment, Metro has been operating at reduced service levels, with fewer trains and longer wait times for customers. Even with the return of the 7000-series railcars, the reduced level of service is expected to continue through Dec. 31.
