'Sandwich Guy' Who Threw Sub At Agents In DC Acquitted
The D.C. man who hurled a sub sandwich at a Customs and Border Protection agent was acquitted Thursday of assault by a jury.
WASHINGTON, DC — A District man who protested the presence of federal agents in Washington, D.C., by hurling a sub sandwich at a Customs and Border Protection agent was acquitted of an assault charge Thursday, media reports said.
Sean C. Dunn, 37, was cited for misdemeanor assault after throwing a sandwich at a federal agent during President Donald Trump’s crime crackdown this summer. He said he was speaking out against fascism and anti-migrant policies by the administration, The Washington Post said.
The U.S. Attorney's office said Dunn was tried for “throwing a sandwich at a federal officer at point-blank range.”

A viral video of the sandwich tossing made him a symbol of resistance to Trump’s deployment of federal agents, the Associated Press said. Federal prosecutors sought to indict Dunn of a felony, but a grand jury did not agree.
The jury decided Dunn's act was not an attempt to cause injury, The New York Times reported.

Dunn, a former paralegal in the Justice Department, was rearrested by U.S. marshals after police released him, and authorities filmed agents in tactical gear raiding his apartment as part of an edited video of his arrest that was shared by the White House on social media.
Dunn's lawyers argued that the judge's decision to keep the jury selection process from the public violated the 6th Amendment's right to a speedy and public trial, but the judge denied a motion for a second round of the process, FOX DC reported.
Defense attorney Sabrina Shroff argued, “In this country, the last time I checked, dissent and opposition are not crimes."
