See DC In All Its Splendor As Cherry Blossoms Reach Peak Bloom
DC's iconic cherry trees reached their peak bloom, drawing families, couples and photographers to admire the delicate pink blossoms.

WASHINGTON, DC — The ethereal display happens every year to show that winter has been banished. As the famed Yoshino cherry blossoms reached their peak bloom in the nation's capitol last week, visitors flocked to Washington, D.C's tidal basin to take in the pink hues that wash over the area every spring.
Several attendees flew kites in celebration during Saturday's Blossom kite festival. Others donned pastel pink outfits as an homage to the iconic trees, with a couple posing for their engagement photos amid the blooms.
Noticeably missing this year are some older cherry blossom trees that visitors had come to love, which were removed last year because rising water levels from the tidal basin affected their growth. The most iconic tree regular visitors gone from the landscape was "Stumpy," named for its stump-like appearance. The trees that remain are thriving this spring.
