Tax March: President Trump's Tax Returns At Center Of Saturday Demonstrations
Demonstrators marched in Washington D.C. and in cities and towns across the U.S. to demand President Trump release his tax returns.

Demonstrators gathered in Washington D.C. and in cities and towns across the country to march and pressure President Donald Trump into releasing his tax returns. At the site of the main march in Washington D.C., Oregon Sen. Ron Wyden, who has been outspoken about the issue of Trump's tax returns, was among the speakers and called on Trump to release his tax returns.

Marchers gathered in New York City, Denver, Chicago, Cincinnati and even in Palm Beach, where Trump is spending the weekend at the high-end Mar-A-Lago resort. The demonstrators in Palm Beach put the president on a detour as his motorcade reportedly took the longer way back from the golf course to avoid marchers.
In Trump's hometown of New York City, demonstrators marched to Trump Tower, a regular site for protesters and home to first lady Melania Trump.

The demonstrations tok place Saturday, April 15, the date that traditionally marks tax day in the United States.
Trump is the first major party candidate in over 40 years to not release his tax returns, saying his returns are under audit, though independent tax experts have said that doesn't prevent the president from releasing his returns. Shortly after the inauguration, Kellyanne Conway, senior counselor to the president, said Trump would not be releasing his tax returns, contradicting her own previous statements.

"He is not going to release his tax returns," Conway said to ABC News correspondent George Stephanopoulos. "We litigated this all through the election. People didn't care; they voted for him."
While Conway has maintained that the people don't care about Trump's tax returns, polling has shown otherwise. Interest may have waned since Trump was inaugurated, but a new Bloomberg/Morning Consult poll released this month showed that 53 percent of voters want the president to release his federal tax returns.
The poll also found that 51 percent of voters say the president's federal returns are either very important or somewhat important to them.
While there have been widespread protests since Trump was elected, few have focused on the president's tax returns. In February, a group of protesters mooned Trump Tower in Chicago in an attempt to pressure the president into releasing his returns.
Saturday's tax marches appear to be the largest since the Women's March in January, which saw thousands and thousands of protesters come together across cities in the United States, marching together in a sea pink as a show of resistance.

"President Trump must release his full tax returns. We believe that public servants must be accountable to the people who elect them," a message posted to the Tax March website states. "The public has a right to understand the financial relationships and potential conflicts of interest of their elected leaders. Therefore, President Trump must immediately release his full tax returns, as all presidents and major-party presidential candidates have done for the last 40 years. Congress should enact legislation requiring this president and future presidential candidates to disclose their tax returns."
The Tax March also has an unofficial mascot, the "Trump Chicken." According to the New York Times, the chicken was originally installed outside a shopping mall in China and an activist in San Francisco later came up with the idea to buy replica inflatable chickens for the Tax March.
